The 2013 race is over and in the history books for another year. Please check here to see the results or visit our Facebook Page. All three segments of the triathlon were timed electronically this year, a first for us. Everything went well, and we're already looking forward to next year. Alpha Natural Resources and Brooks Run Mining Company have been our wonderful sponsors for the past five years. We are looking for a new sponsor in 2014. If you have suggestions, please contact us.
July 14, 2013 will be the 28th Anniversary of Richwood's Scenic Mountain Triathlon. Come join in a weekend of fun and excitement as we play host to West Virginia's oldest triathlon. Starting in 1985 this event has become a favorite of triathletes and spectators alike.
The entire race is held in the Monongahela National Forest. The race starts with a .5 mile swim in chilly Summit Lake. Next is a 17.1 mile bike ride over 3,988 feet Kennison Mountain to the Cranberr Mountain Nature Center. The race concludes with a 6.2 mile run down to the Cranberry Glades and back to the Cranberry Mountain Nature Center for the finish.
Other activities include a pasta dinner on Saturday in Richwood and a post race cookout at the finish line at the Nature Center on Sunday. This is a spectator-friendly race with lots of food and fun for everyone.
Awards are given for numerous age groups, sexes and teams. Each athlete eats for free at the pasta dinner and the cookout. Also, each athlete receives a free t-shirt.
The event is organized by the Richwood Area Chamber of Commerce and generously sponsored by Alpha Natural Resources and affiliate Brooks Run Mining Company.
In 2012 we added electronic timing for the biking and running and the swimmers went into the lake in waves. This improvement made everyone happy. Even though this race is now in the history books, we are already working on this year's race. Make your plans now to spend the weekend with us and Swim, Bike, Run, Conquer.
